When producing drinking glasses, the stem and cup have to be connected using a gas burner. In order to achieve precise connection, it is necessary to know the exact gap size, i.e. the distance between the stem and glass cup. Monitoring this gap size allows the feed rate to be controlled during production.
The optoCONTROL ODC2520-46 is destined for this task. Although the ODC2520-46 can be installed at a large distance from the gas burner, the glass edges are still detected reliably. Due to the high level of heat generated, the micrometer is equipped with purge air or a cooling housing provided by the customer. The gap size is measured before the heating process occurs and the data is transferred via Ethernet to the control system, which regulates the feed process.

Glass edges are accurately and reliably detected. The measuring range is 46mm. The optoCONTROL can be directly installed into the line where it detects the gap size rapidly and precisely. Positive results include shorter process times, reduced waste and reduction of additional costs.
