A specialist machine manufacturer in Germany created a handling and processing plant for synchronizer discs. The front side of these discs is deburred using a 500W laser during the production process. An essential part of this plant is the measurement technology, which guarantees the precise positioning of the synchronizer discs under the deburring laser. Therefore, the optoNCDT 1700-20LL laser triangulation sensor from Micro-Epsilon is used, whose small laser line enables high precision measurement results even on shiny metal surfaces such as metallic synchronizer discs. In order to protect the laser sensor from the high performance lasers emitted by the deburring laser, the sensor is mechanically shielded. This metrological arrangement guarantees precise positioning of the synchronizer discs by the ILD1700-20LL laser triangulation sensor with no interference from the deburring laser.
