The turboSPEED DZ140 is the third generation of eddy current-based revolution counters for turbochargers. The new sensor system detects the rotational speed of turbochargers in test cells and on-vehicle road tests and is suitable for speed measurements of 200 to 400,000 rpm. The revolution-counting sensor is optimized for thin turbine wheel blades made from aluminum or titanium and comes with a completely new, compact housing (electronics). This measurement system is therefore ideally suited to road test applications. Reducing the installation time to a minimum, a ‘status’ LED indicates when the sensor has reached the ideal distance from the turbocharger blades. The maximum distance of 2.2 metres enables safe operation.
A variety of different sensors are available that provide different performance characteristics and mounting options. The smallest sensor diameter is 3 mm. All devices are temperature-resistant and fail-safe (EMV) and can therefore operate reliably even in very harsh EMV environments e.g. in hybrid vehicles. In addition, integrated temperature measurement capability detects the actual ambient temperature of the sensor. turboSPEED DZ140 is resistant to fuel and oil. The maximum operating temperature of the miniature sensor is 285°C. The well-engineered design also enables easy sensor replacement without further adjustments. Due to its backward compatibility, previous turboSPEED sensors can also be used.
