IR sensors for measuring on metals

Measuring the temperature of metals is often a ‘hot topic’ in the field of non-contact temperature measurement. Standard sensors operate in the spectral range of 8 to 14µm, in which metals - in principle - possess a low IR emissivity. In order to counteract this effect, different thermoMETER models are being used to measure on metal in spectral ranges from 1µm to 2.3µm.

Temperature measurements between 50°C and 1,800°C can be made using these sensors. M1 and M2 sensors are designed for measurement in primary and secondary metal processing. These enable temperature measurements to be made between 250°C and 1,800°C, and they function at ambient temperatures of up to 125°C.

M3 sensors allow measurements from as low as 50°C. However, the environment must be sufficiently shielded; otherwise temperatures reflected from the surroundings may affect the results. A wide range of accessories, such as protection glasses or cooling enclosures, ensure that the sensors can also operate in harsh environments.
