With the development of the confocal optoNCDT 2402 miniature sensor with an external diameter of just 3.3mm, it is now possible to inspect bored holes with diameters as small as 4.5mm. Known as boreCONTROL, this system inspects indentations and drilled holes. The sensor is rotated by an integrated servomotor, which enables a 360-degree inspection of the hole's interior surface. boreCONTROL is mounted on a linear axis in order to examine the entire inner surface. This means that characteristics such as diameter, roundness, concentricity, conicity and straightness of holes can be inspected. Depending on the set up, individual levels can be measured, or a spiral-shaped profile of the hole can be generated. A complex structured precision bearing system ensures that the required rotational stability of the sensor is maintained at all times.
The system consists of a stainless steel measuring head with integrated mechanics, a sensor probe with an integrated confocal sensor, and two controllers. The confocal technology is suitable for use with a wide range of surfaces and does not require any reference points during measurements, which means the sensor can also recognize edges and steps. Due to its overall length, the sensor can measure holes of up to a depth of 90mm. If a single system calls for different measurement ranges, the sensor probe can be replaced in just a few simple steps.
