Are bearing shells present?
04/30/2010
At Swedish automotive manufacturer Volvo, the presence of the bearing shells in the bearing cap are checked prior to automatic assembly of the engine. The bearing caps are transferred to the inspection station on a workpiece carrier. Here, a robot picks up the bearing caps and moves them into the light band of the optoCONTROL sensor. In order to ascertain whether a bearing shell has been inserted, the diameter is measured, after which a signal is sent to the robot controller. The high depth of field of the complete light band and the high resolution of up to 30µm are important factors in this application.
