Laser protection class

Laser devices and light emitting diodes (LEDs) are grouped into laser classes depending on their potential hazards to persons and property. The following laser classes only give information about the possible hazards to the eyes and skin. Detailed information, also including the protective measures required in dealing with laser devices and light emitting diodes, can be taken from EN 60825-1.

Class 1: Harmless to the eyes.
Class 1M: Harmless to the eyes if the cross-sectional area of the light beam is not reduced by magnifiers, lenses or telescopes.
Class 2: Visible laser Radiation is harmless to the eyes for a short effective period.
Class 2M: Visible laser Radiation is harmless to the eyes for a short effective period if the cross-sectional area of the light beam is not reduced by magnifiers, lenses or telescopes.
Class 3R: Laser Radiation is harmful to the eyes.
Class 3B: Laser Radiation is harmful to the eyes and skin.
