LVDT, Linear Variable Differential Transformer

This designation describes a method of inductive displacement measurement. Here, the primary windings are supplied with a constant alternating voltage. The primary windings produce an alternating field, inducing a signal in the secondary coils, the strength of which depends on the core position.
